Below, in his own words, is why.

In today’s world, healthcare is not equally attainable for every man, woman and child. The government’s involvement, although well intended, has seemed to only make the issue more complex, complicated and expensive for the very people that they had hoped it would be easier, more natural and less expensive. The Arubah Community Clinic, a free healthcare clinic serving the uninsured in NE Oklahloma was founded five years ago to stand in the gap for these people. Since opening, it has served as the medical home for hundreds of hard-working Oklahomans. While not everyone is born with the gift of healing, I believe everyone can help in their own way.

Me? I can run.

Three years ago I participated in a triathlon as a way to raise funds and awareness for the clinic. Since that time, the need for the clinic’s services has continued to grow so I knew that this time I knew I needed to go even bigger. Later this year I will be running in the Leadville 100 trail race to both challenge myself and support the clinic. This race will be the farthest I have run and one of the most grueling courses in the American 100 mile race circuit, but each and every mile I will be giving thanks for my health and coming one step closer to restoring the health of my community.
